The client is the party on the other side of the building contract. Their details are held on the project, in Project Info.

Get the name right for the contract
Section titled “Get the name right for the contract”Client Full Name is what appears on the documents you issue — progress claims and variations in particular. It should read the way the contract reads.
For a couple building a house, that usually means both names:
A & J Hendricks, not Andrew Hendricks. For a company, use the entity name and
not the contact’s name: Torquay Property Holdings Pty Ltd, not Sam Rowe.
Where the email goes
Section titled “Where the email goes”The client email is the default recipient when you issue:
- a progress claim
- a variation for approval
- a colour selection schedule
Getting it wrong does not fail silently in a dangerous way — the send fails or goes to the wrong person, and you find out. But it is one field, and it is used often enough to be worth checking before the first claim.
Filtering by client
Section titled “Filtering by client”The Projects list can be filtered by client, which is how you pull up every job for a repeat customer or a developer running several lots at once.
For that to work, the client name has to be spelled the same way on every job.
Torquay Property Holdings P/L and Torquay Property Holdings Pty Ltd are two
different clients as far as the filter is concerned.
Clients and suppliers are different things
Section titled “Clients and suppliers are different things”A client is who you are building for. A supplier is who you buy from, and lives at company level under Suppliers.
They are separate lists on purpose, and the same business can legitimately appear in both — a developer you build for who also supplies materials, for instance.
