Change it from New Password.

Use a long, unique one and store it in a password manager. SmarteBuild holds your job costs, your margins, your subcontractor rates and your clients’ details — it is worth the same care as your accounting system.

Worth a glance occasionally. If it shows a time you were not working, tell your administrator and change your password.

The signature goes on orders, tender invitations, variations and claims — documents that reach subcontractors, suppliers and clients. It is worth setting up properly.

Include your name, position, company, phone and website. Keep it short: a subcontractor reading an order on a phone does not need six lines of disclaimer above the content.

Set Signature width so the logo is legible without dominating. Around 200 pixels suits most logos; the default is often too large.

SMTP Host, SMTP Port, SSL Required, Email Password and Set as my default email configure sending from your own address.

Test and Save checks the settings before storing them — always use it rather than plain save, so a problem surfaces now rather than when you send a tender. See Email settings.

Suppresses the getting-started screen once you no longer need it.

Leave it on for your first weeks. It is a reasonable checklist of the setup steps, and turning it off early means finding those steps yourself.

Five minutes, and it makes everything you send afterwards look right:

  1. Set your name and position properly.
  2. Add an avatar — it makes Messages and the activity lists readable at a glance.
  3. Set up email sending and Test and Save it.
  4. Write your signature and set the image width.
  5. Change your password to something unique.
